3 Inspiration Sources for Flat Lay Photography

3 Inspiration Sources for Flat Lay Photography

Hi love!

Happy Friday! In today’s post I’m going to talk about my 3 sources of inspiration for flat lay photography. #FlatLayFriday

For me personally, it’s so hard sometimes to come up with some fresh flat lay ideas especially when I’m working for my own blog or project. I found it a lot easier when working with brands because they will give me more details and let me know exactly what they want or are looking for.

Since it’s quite hard to get my thoughts put together I found myself ending up in these 3 places I’m about to tell you.

If you are ready, let’s dive into our topic today “3 Inspiration Sources for Flat Lay Photography“.

#1 Source: Pinterest

3-Inspiration-Sources-for-Flat-Lay-Photography #flatlaytips #flatlay allaboutgoodvibes.com IG @thevibescloset Molly Larsen Lifestyle blogger

As of now, you might already knew that Pinterest works like a search engine just like google. But the different between them is that Pinterest is the place where you can find all kinds of beautiful pictures once you search on their search bar.  Instead of the name of the article thats pops up, you will see either the photos that are included in the article or you will see the photo with the topic of the article coming up. It’s a super convenient source for all kinds of topics.

I used to use Pinterest for wedding inspirations, food and interior design. Now I am using Pinterest for everything that you can think of, especially gathering flat lay ideas for new projects.

How I use Pinterest are explained in the below tips:

One:

Using search bar and search words like “Flat Lay“, FlatLay, FlatLay Ideas“, “FlatLay Inspo” and etc.. For this, you will see a lot of flat lay photos popping up.

If you want to be more specific on what you’re looking for, you can put the niche word in front of the word flat lay. For example, travel flatlay, beauty flatlay, fashion flatlay and many more.

You can now search using hashtags as well.

Two:

Follow people who have FlatLay boards. I have one here that you can follow and get some new ideas from.

To search for boards, you have to use the search bar, type in the same keyword “FlatLay” once you press enter, you will see the options of the search types next to the search bar. Now you can then change from “all pins” to “board” or “people”. Then follow the ones that inspired you the most.

Now every time you visit your Pinterest homepage, all of the new pins from people and boards you are following will show up to inspire you.

Three:

Create your own Flat Lay board and start collecting your own pins. This way you will be able to go back and see what types and feels of flat lay photos you like. I even created my own Flat Lay Guide board to collect online article tips from other people.

Pinterest definitely my number one go to source for Flat Lay inspiration.

#2 Source: Books and Magazines

3-Inspiration-Sources-for-Flat-Lay-Photography #flatlaytips #flatlay allaboutgoodvibes.com IG @thevibescloset Molly Larsen Lifestyle blogger

Books and magazines are my number two source when it comes to flat lay photography, not only do they show beautiful photography but also provide details in them.

For magazines, I mostly look for color palettes and items that will go well as props in my photos.

For books, there are many of them on the market now that will teach you about how to style your flat lay photos. I have 4 books that I like and there are parts of them that teach you about flat lay photography.

As much as I don’t use Instagram stalking people like how I use Facebook (LOL), I LOVE using Instagram as my inspiration source, connecting with all cool people and of course sharing my stories with you. It’s my third place to take a look when I’m running out of ideas.

Because instagram has so many people who’re sharing their passion through pictures, that would be a no brainer not to take a look around on this platform.

Here’s how I would recommend you to do.

#hashtag search

This is kind of similar to Pinterest, you can search #flatlay photos through hashtags like, #flatlay, #flatlays, #flatlaystyle, #flatlayforever, #flatlaytoday, #flatlayoftheday, #flatlaylove, #flatlaythenation and more.

I created a list of Flat Lay Hashtags and you can download it below.

Follow accounts and hashtags

After you are done searching for beautiful photo using #flatlay keywords, you should find some interesting accounts to follow now. I only follow people who truly inspire me. I recommend you to do the same. 🙂

You now have a choice to follow hashtags as well so take advantage of it and follow the hashtags you find that interests you most.

Melie Bianco “ADELE” Crossbody | Vegan Handbag | The V Armoire

Hi, love!

It’s #VeganWednesday and I’m going to talk about this ADELE crossbody bag from Melie Bianco that I added to my vegan handbag collection (aka The V Armoire) today. If you missed my first vegan handbag blog post from last week, feel free to check it out here.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts about Vegan HandBags on my last post. You’re welcome to share your thoughts withy us today at the end of this post. 🙂

Alright, let’s get into today’s topic, shall we?

I knew of Melie Bianco from one of my Instagram collaborations last year and I have been loving their design, quality and price. This brand is approved by PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, so you are sure that when buying products from them there were no animal cruelty happening behind the scenes.

I got my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law vegan bags from this brand as Christmas presents and they all love them. I got myself so many bags from Melie Bianco too which means I will be sharing with you tons of bags from them later down the road.

ADELE

Talking about this pretty ADELE crossbody, it’s made with semi gloss vegan leather. It has a magnetic closure and an inner zipper pocket inside. This bag is perfect for a quick errand running kind of day or a night out with your girlfriends because of its size. I really love the wristlet handle detail and the bag shape. That makes the bag not only stylish but also has its own uniqueness in it. The gold chain strap adds some conveniency and beautiful contrast to its black leather.

The size of the bag is 9″L x 1″W x 7″H with a long strap drops at about 22″.

This vegan handbag style comes in two color, black and burgundy. The price is $58.80.

How I Style This Bag

I’m going for a comfy style today as you know I’m in my third trimester so everything comfy will be on my fashion list these days. I picked to wear this bag with a striped sweater dress and a pair of my comfy white sneakers. For accessories, I picked these cat-eye sunglasses, resin circle drop earrings (old from Anthropologies) and this colorblock satin scarf that I tied my hair with to go with the look.

With the bag being so sleek, simple and classy, you can go for a minimal look or a loud look, either style will look great with this bag. It’s a perfect bag for any occasion that requires minimal items to carry with you. Because of the wristlet handle and gold chain strap make it a plus for this bag to be a perfect day-to-night bag in my opinion.

Steve Madden “BTEENIE” crossbody | Vegan Handbag | The V Armoire

Introducing you to my new style series today, “The V Armoire” – a collection of vegan handbags I started collecting since late 2018. I added “The V Armoire” to my fashion categories on this blog and I’m so excited to be sharing all of my vegan bags I collect with you here every/ (or every other) Wednesday. #VeganWednesday

#VeganWednesday A little bit of a story behind the name picking here. I picked “The V Armoire” to go along with my social account name, “The Vibes Closet”. Instead of “Vibes” I only use V which stands for Vegan.

And instead of “Closet”, I use “Armoire”. It sounds very classy to me which I really love. Before we get into what bag I have to share with you today, I have to let you know first that I’m still using non-vegan products. But this is a good start and I’m proud of it. What I like most about vegan bags are the affordable price point. I can buy 10-20 bags for a price of one luxury leather handbag. Seriously I got about 10+ vegan handbags from all the holiday sales last year.

“BTEENIE” CROSSBODY

In today’s post I would like to introduce you to this charming bag, Steve Madden “BTEENIE” crossbody in white. This bag is made with 100% Polyurethane and 100% Polyester lining. Comes in 7  colors; whiteblack, natural snake, red, taupe, black-white, and pink multi. The price of this bag is $58. A few colors are on sale right now and they are a little bit above $30. I’m linking all of them for you below.

I really love the size of this bag, it is not too big or not too small. The bag dimensions are approximately about 8″H x 8″W x 2.5″D.  As you can see from my photos, the luggage tag accent is adding a really fun detail to it. This bag comes with an adjustable strap, (strap drop: 25 inches). I love a zipper closure as well. It has 2 interior pockets: 1 slip and 1 zipper pocket.

Overall, this bag is very cute and functional.

HOW I STYLE
THIS BAG

I picked this bag to go with my plum fit and flare dress. Because the bag is white, I’m playing with white accessories like beret, sunglasses and ankle boots to match with the color of the bag. I really love the contrasting color of the dress and my accessories but I want to make this look a lot more of a statement so I added some cool patterns like leopard. With the texture of leopard print tights it makes the look a lot more fun and interesting. You can definitely pull this look together for a Valentine’s day date or a special date night. A round bag shape would pretty much be an appropriate match with any style of cloths.

Share with me your thoughts on vegan handbags:

Do you think it’s a trend or it will be a permanent part of our way of living?

I hope you enjoy this blog post and considered looking into adopting vegan products into your lifestyle.

To those who were concerned about my health, THANK YOU so much for sending me Facebook & IG messages and emails asking about my pregnancy. I’m feeling amazingly great now after going to the labor and delivery the evening after Christmas to check on my early labor contractions I was having. I got a shot to help calm my uterus down and have been better since. Those two weeks break was a good help too. We have a few more weeks to go til we meet our new baby! I can’t wait to introduce our new addition of joy to you.

No more about me! Let’s get started with our topic today to help you get on track for your best year yet. I forgot to mention that you can apply these 3 tips with any new project, it doesn’t have to be only for the New Year.

The second the new year started, I felt the positive energy coming my way and even my husband could feel it too. Below are some tips on what we did a few days before the year ended.

Tip 1

Let go of the past and focus on the present

Holding on to the past will slow you down in every aspect of life. The best thing to do with it is to let it go and stay at your present moment. You don’t need to forget about your past completely but to only use it as your life lessons. Think about what you learned from it. Say thank you to your past that has taught you so many things and made you become who you are now. There’s no need to keep talking and/or thinking about it all the time. Just move on and do your best at your time now.

If you want, you can write down a list of your past that you’re holding on to. Then write what are the good lessons you learned from them. Write “Thank you” at the end of each one. Now it’s time for you to appreciate them and move on.

Practice Tip 1

It can be something like this:

I love when …. because…., thank you for ….. now I’m ready to move on.

Tip 2

Remember you can achieve anything in life

All success starts within YOU. If you believe in yourself and put your mind into whatever you do, you are already half way to your success. If you’re planning a new project, new daily routines, don’t think about obstacles you may face but instead imagine yourself already achieving your goal. How would you feel? Excited? Happy? So proud? Full of joy?

The best practice of this tip is to never, ever doubt your abilities or others who will be involved in your goals. The second you have doubt in you mind, you are so many steps further away from your achievements.

For example, if you want to improve your relationship with your friend/ partner, you should trust in both of your abilities, put the past aside, don’t think about obstacles, and only image what it would be like to have the best relationship ever.

Practice Tip 2

Now put this tips to practice by filling in the blanks below;

I believe and I know in my heart that I can …… . I would feel so ……. after I achieve……. . I am so grateful for my ability and others who are making this ….. happen. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Tip 3

Empower yourself with good books

My husband and I used this tip on New Year’s Eve night. We both got new books that inspired us in the areas that we’re looking to improve. Instead of watching movies, we read our new books until midnight in our bed. Same as our 3 years old daughter who got new books and was reading them to herself and us before she fell to sleep.

Books play a big role in self empowering. Especially the books that have other people’s stories or proven theories in it. If you get the right book on the right topic you’re looking for, that book can change your life or at least empower and direct you in the right direction.

I purchased about 30 new books toward the end of last year and the beginning of the new year within those two weeks of my days off and I almost finished my first two books. I’ve learned a lot this past week and I can’t wait to read more books to ensure and empower myself to the next level of me.

What had happened since my husband and I started reading our books before bed are:

  1. We learned something new that inspired us before going to bed.
  2. Our connection is stronger than before because we share our positive thoughts before we’re going to bed.
  3. We encourage and support each other with the areas we needed improvement.
  4. Talking freely and honestly with how we feel about each other.
  5. We are on the same page and willing to do whatever tasks to make us and our family happy.

Practice Tip 3

Answer these questions below to find out what type of book you should start the New Year with:

  1. What areas of life would you like to improve most?
  2. Do you like a book with theory, easy step-by-step guide, real life experience or all of them?
  3. Do you like to read or listen?
  4. Where can you get your book (audiobook) from?
  5. When will you get your book(s) and start your first page?

Now it’s time for you to get the right book and start empowering yourself.

Here are 5 books I recommend reading to start of your year (project) right.

Question for you today:

How did you start your New Year? and How do you feel now?

I hope today’s post will help put a right mindset for you to start your year. Those tips are quite simple and easy to apply to your life. I’m using them myself and have seen a lot of benefits. So I wanted this first blog post of the year to be a source of inspiration and to help you become a better version of you.  I hope that you will use at least one or all three tips to get yourself on the right path.

If you think this post will benefit anyone in your life, feel free to share it with them.

TERRI PIETTE

I am grateful for the birth of my daughter, I found out years later that I had a tumor/cyst on my pituitary gland. I wasn’t producing hormones and had this since puberty but never knew and it just kept growing all those years. I realized then how lucky I was to have even gotten pregnant, Also i didn’t produce breast milk and never knew why. As much as I have always loved her, with the news I found out, I realized how much of a miracle she really was and appreciated her even MORE.

DAWN SMITH

I would love to be able to help my sister know that she deserves good things in life. Her and my Brother-in-law just bought a house and she doesn’t think she deserves it. She has low self esteem so anything good that happens she a hard time accepting it. I guess in general just being able to help someone see that they are a good person and when good things happen believe in them and yourself.

My family is my first value and being a good person. The world is so different than when i grew up and i just feel that we need to be better to each other. To not judge someone and to see how they are as a person. I strive to be a better person daily and feel that if i am positive it might help someone else to be ?

Dealing with a negative person can have so many effects on not just them but you. When I come across someone who is negative i try and talk to them and see what is making them feel that way and if it’s something simple i offer some positive thinking that might make them see the situation a little differently. then there are some negative people that start to change how you are and those people just seem to be people that are so unhappy that no matter how hard you try and be positive they already have a wall up to block anything good. to me those people still need us to be positive and just be who we are and offer to be an ear if they need it. We can’t turn our back on everyone but we can decide who we are going to use our energy on and to what extent.

DREVA ST CLAIR

I’d like to work on self care and spiritual growth so that I can feel more positive and rejuvenated and have that rub off on other areas of my life. It’s so hard to find time to Yourself when you have young kids but its also really important for your Well being.

I’m the first person in my family to get a bachelor’s degree. To some that may not be much but my mom couldn’t afford to put me through college so I found a way to make it happen through scholarships and financial aid.

Also, I became a mother two weeks before I turned 23 and my two little girls are a dream come true.

LORNA WEBSTER

For me, I don’t know that I ever learned to ‘love’ myself, but what I did realize is that the outer shell is not important at all. I love myself inside and that’s what’s important. As you say, we all will be old and wrinkled eventually there’s no avoiding it, but many are born with disfigurements or can never look the way society wants. What I’m saying is, the more we throw off society’s expectations (something really hard, even I feel them), the happier we are. Societal expectations are there to make us unhappy, to make us ‘buy’ but the truth is if your personality is beautiful you will be beautiful. It shines out of your face and the people who love you will see it. It’s why we have ‘guilty’ crushes on ‘ugly’ people. Beauty is totally subjective and made up of so much more than the external shell. Sorry if this is a bit preachy, but I learned this over time!

You are so right that those people are unhappy and spread it outwards. I have a lot of hard things in my life and am a realist, but once I started facing my issues, I lost all that bitterness. Now I love to bring people up and support them. I find the best way to tackle that negativity, if you’re brave enough is to point out exactly how harsh and evil they are being. If that doesn’t work, I tell them ‘I actually don’t care about your opinion and I hope some day you are able to heal from whatever makes you so hateful’ that drives them absolutely nuts but sometimes it’s what they need to reflect on their behaviour. At the end of the day if somebody loves you they will support you and if they are not supporting you, don’t listen to them. A loving, supporting person will give their advice and voice their concerns in a way filled with care for you. Nasty, bitter concerns have no place, you know who you are and what you are doing, ignore them!

SHANNA ELISE UPTERGROVE

I am grateful for my patience. Maybe being deaf has taught me that, but I love that I can listen to my children and even my mom and help them out and be grateful that I can help them!

Growing up, I did not appreciate being deaf. I think I fully embraced it after I got pregnant with my first child. today, I don’t mind it at all, it is a good thing that I can turn my hearing aid off when I want and enjoy total silence. But not being able to hear has helped me become closer to my kids and family.

MELISSA A CRAIG

One project that I want to start doing that I just simply had the time for is compiling a family recipe cookbook, to hand down to my girls, I seriously did not have the time when they were younger, but now I have a little more free time and would love to compile recipes from my grandmothers. From some of my aunts and from our gatherings, to some of their favorite things they loved growing up. I think it would be great for them to keep and learn from.

I was always upset I never went back and finished college, at 35, I decided it was time. I went back and got not just one but 2 degrees! I made me feel accomplished and it showed my girls who were in middle school at the time if you work hard anything is achievable.

I WAS AN OVERWEIGHT KID, ALWAYS HAD BEEN SINCE THE YOUNGEST PICTURES OF ME, I NEVER had a time when I was thin, match this with moving all the time, I went to 14 different schools growing up, this meant for no long-term friendships even in the tween or teen years. I now have tried to maintain a healthy weight and have been steadfast with my own children in where we live. I set the goal of living in the same school district and home while my kids grew up, I never wanted them to feel like the new kid in school. They have gone to sleep away camp and had other experiences where they were meeting new people but I wanted them to have lasting friendships that I so lacked growing up. now my daughter a senior in high school has had the same best friend since first grade. and my youngest a freshman has a friend well a few of them since kindergarten. I just know that small thing has made me and them happier and healthier, so the thing that has changed is the nomad lifestyle.

PATRICIA WRIGHT

I will tell you of a project I did and am thankful for. I had always wanted a record(book like) of my life. I did it over 30 years ago. I am glad I did because 8 years ago i had a brain enuryism and forgot a lot. If I hadn’t written and typed it i may never have had my story to pass on.

PATTY

Actually, I was dreaming to be a travel blogger. I came to the U.S. three years ago and my first trip was to see Cherry blossom in D.C. while I was three months pregnancy. My husband and I enjoyed road trips and we had been at 23 U.S. states. Our dream trip is to travel from coast to coast by trains. In reality, my travel plans are held due to I have to care my little girl 24/7 I don’t even have free time to spend on my own. However, there were several great moments that our family spend together. I am looking forward for a right time near future to visit pleasant places in the U.S. with my lovely family.

To dealing with the negative people is to start by understanding the reasons for their negativity. I would say almost all negativity has its roots in fears. So better way is trying to understand them with mind positively.

THE ways I choose to deal with negative people VARIES. I’m not sure if it is the best but I have learned that it’s also not worth letting them consume my thoughts or life. Sometimes I have to SET boundaries with myself or them, Remind myself THAT their negativity is theirs them and not Mine, OFFER a positive perspective or attitude, understand that what they are going through Is most likely temporary, OR if needed i keep my interactions to a minimum or not at all if THE negativity is too much to be AROUND on a regular basis. I have noticed that negative people are much easier to deal with if my own self-worth is high.

I just understand that if someone is negative, it is something that they are dealing with, not me. So I don’t pay attention to it and try to understand why they are that way. It’s hard and not always the easiest thing to do.

I get spa treatments to take care of myself physically, and spend as much time as possible with those i love to take care of my mental/spiritual needs.

My dream as a child was to get married and be a housewife in my small Kansas town, which did not happen. but I achieved something even better. I was in the travel industry for over 30 years and saw the world. I’m sure if my big dream had come true I wouldn’t have seen much outside of Kansas.

I am grateful I survived being a survivor of suicide. I lost my husband very tragically in 2004, 5 weeks after he returned from A Year in Iraq. There were days I couldn’t get out of bed. And other days I wanted to be dead. It Took a whole lot of counseling and support from some stronger friends and family who put up with all the HURT, anger and lashing out. They HELD together the pieces of me. And I’m so glad to still be here.

ALISON BRAIDWOOD

I always wanted to live overseas. So i did. I moved to England after I finished university, and lived in London for 17 years. I always felt at home in London, and loved the mix of cultures. I’ll never regret doing it. It does broaden your horizons.

SAMANTHA

None of my family went to college so me being the first was a dream that i surpassed. Sheer determination got me through.
